Aldern is a Magnimarian merchant who was visiting Sandpoint for the Swallowtail Festival, even winning a competition against the heroes. Shortly thereafter, the party saved him and his dog from certain death at the hands of a goblin raider. Not one to let a good deed go unrecognized, he invited the group on a boar hunt, buying each of them a horse (and a fine saddle for Pokey).

After having been defeated in balance beam arm-wrestling contest, Desno has taken it upon himself to show up the foppish merchant with his intriguing backstory and various skills.
